2016 ROB MACISAAC FELLOWSHIP
Flat rate: $17.03 per hour
(Temporary – up to 4 months)

Put your love of transportation to work at Metrolinx as a 2016 Rob MacIsaac Fellow !

Established in honour of Metrolinx’s first Chair, the fellowship program invites youto undertake an innovative project related to transportation, with the guidance of a senior Metrolinx staff advisor during your school term (January through April, 2016).

Following the research term, Fellows transition into a paid internship in a related Metrolinx division (May through August, 2016). Fellows will receive a grant at the end of each component of the Fellowship.

The Fellowship is ideal for self-motivated graduate or undergraduate students with a keen interest in transportation, providing an opportunity to delve into their interests further, and explore a career in a transportation-related field. Fellows can develop and apply their projects in a real-life setting, gain valuable work experience and make a positive impact on the GTHA’s multi-modal transportation system.

Applications from a wide variety of fields are welcome, including (but not limited to) urban planning, engineering, information technology, public or business administration, marketing, law, design, communications and environmental studies. Key Responsibilities:
Undertake an innovative project related to improving regional transportation, during your school term, under the guidance of your academic advisor and a senior Metrolinx advisor.
Provide a final report and present your work during the course of the Fellowship.
If appropriate, represent Metrolinx at a related academic conference in 2016/2017.
Work in a four-month paid internship position in a Metrolinx division related to your research.

Qualifications:
You can be a graduate or undergraduate student, but you must be enrolled in an Ontario university or college program between January and April 2016.
Your research term must be supported by your current academic institution and the topic must contribute to the requirements of your degree.
Students from any field of study are welcome to apply.
Applicants must provide a cover letter and resume, and a clear, concise project proposal (maximum 500 words) that demonstrates fresh, creative and innovative thinking. It should describe:
The topic, and how the project is innovative and transportation-related
How the project can support Metrolinx’s mission to plan, deliver and build mobility solutions for the region, and where it could potentially fit in the Metrolinx organization (e.g. planning, policy, corporate services, capital infrastructure, rail operations, information technology)
Any specific requests of Metrolinx that will enable you to conduct your proposed research (e.g. access to data)
The proposal must also identify the academic supervisor and institution that will be overseeing the project during the academic term.
