Additionally, we develop and manufacture state-of-the-art data acquisition and telemetry systems. ‘metOcean telematics’ has been a world leader in integrated systems used for real-time environment monitoring, with specialization in the production of air-deployed and ship-deployed drifting buoys, search and rescue buoys, oil spill tracking buoys, ice platforms and acoustic systems, and defense and security systems. ‘metOcean telematics’ marine focused products have been developed to support niche markets in a wide variety of scientific and commercial fields. These markets include Oil and Gas, Search and Rescue (SAR), Oceanographic, Meteorological, Military, Polar, ARGO Program, Aquaculture and Port Authorities.

Purpose
The Technical Writer is responsible for producing high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. The Technical Writer will work closely with the Technical Support team but also along side Sales, Marketing, Operations and Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Technical Writer is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Prepare, create, maintaining technical documentation such as user manuals, configuration instructions and quick reference guidelines
  • Understand the technology and applications for which the documentation is to be prepared;
  • Understand Quality Management System
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
  • Collect technical information from the Company’s internal subject matter experts (Engineering, Operations, Quality Assurance) by: attending product development meetings; collaborating with engineers, technical support, production and managers to clarify technical issues.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other employees
  • Ensure that documents meet Quality System requirements as applicable and documents are clear and executable
  • Organize information according to the user’s needs
  • Organize and Manage Design History Files
  • Work on and managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Create and manage document work schedules;

Technical and Non-Technical Skills

  • Experience in technical writing.
  • Experience in creative and marketing writing styles considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft SharePoint. Advanced skill in Microsoft Word and the creation and use of templates and styles
  • Proven technical writing and editing skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong creative, organizational, analytic and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, manage multiple projects with constantly shifting workload and deadlines, and work effectively in a team
  • Strong research skills including gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources (subject matter experts, project managers) to develop internal and customer facing

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in English/Technical Writing, Journalism or Communication or Applied Computer Science.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in technical writing or editing and ability to demonstrate knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of technical writing.
