A. Overview

Our legal administrative assistants play an integral role in our team at MEP Business Counsel. We are currently looking for a dynamic LAA available to support two to three lawyers in our corporate-commercial group. We work under a very collaborative model at MEP and so our ideal candidate is a strong team player who is also willing to assist with general administrative tasks on an as needed basis. Attention to detail and pride in high quality output is critical – as is a good sense of humour and positive attitude.

B. General Responsibilities

  • Proficiency with MS Applications: Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point
  • Perform complex editing and formatting of documents for various correspondence, agreement, reports, forms and spreadsheets
  • Provide administrative support to lawyers and enhance practice management
  • Quickly grasp a matter based, electronic filing system
  • Prepare monthly invoices and complete trust paperwork as required
  • Assist team of assistants on large scale transactions
  • Maintain all administrative functions, including file opening and closing procedures, maintaining the calendar, booking appointments, and managing contact list and bring forwards
  • Answer and direct phone calls
  • Effectively communicate information regarding select matters with our paralegals which may pertain to incorporations, dissolutions, revivals, amalgamations, amendments, annual filings, etc.

C. Ideal Candidate Requisites

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a corporate law firm environment
  • Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate
  • Experience with PC Law
  • Very detail oriented
  • Able to work well individually and in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong business vocabulary and ability to write professional correspondence
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to use tact and good judgement
