The Learning Systems Technologist is responsible for supporting the development of courses and programs delivered through a variety of delivery mediums with an emphasis on blended and online courses and programs. Develops advanced learning assets to support the development of online, blended, and in-class deliveries. Assists in the selection, design, production and implementation of educational strategies using technology. Provides coaching and training to instructors and staff on the use and application of a variety of technological tools aimed at enhancing student engagement in learning.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities
Research, evaluate, and implement educational technologies for use in higher education.
Develop advanced educational technology applications, online course materials and creative multi-media products.
Collaborate with instructional designers, educators, Program Managers, and technology services to produce innovative solutions for academic courses and training.
Develop and deliver workshops and training sessions on educational technologies, the University’s learning management system (LMS), and related tools to course instructors.
Create training materials and learning resources on the use of educational technologies, LMS, and related tools.
Facilitate and participate in all curriculum development meetings.
Write content, including creative scenarios, simulations, audio script, and advanced learning assets.
Ensure engaging and creative deliverables while maintaining the instructional integrity and validity of the solution.
Perform detailed quality assurance testing for all deliverables for instructional soundness and interaction design as well as functionality testing.
Provide technical support for instructors related to the regular maintenance and revisions of courses within the learning management system in use.
Participate in project planning and estimates, including determining timelines and deliverables for the design team, discussing options, and identifying instructor’s needs.
Demonstrate effective planning skills including managing several time sensitive projects simultaneously, helping teams determine workload priorities, and documenting progress of work assigned.
Ensure course instructors and staff are advised of systems updates, errors, and features associated with the LMS.
Proactively address problem areas related to usage of LMS by recommending effective and appropriate solutions.
Create and disseminate surveys to determine instructor’s training needs.
Investigate newly reported problems with LMS and document solutions.
Document and update accurate and consistent records of all development work and additional maintenance and update requests.
Provide users and development team with routine information such as LMS updates, errors, and features.
Carry out practical assignments supporting routine operations.
Remain current with frequent developments in the field of education technologies and instructional design.
Provide direction to others in how to carry out work tasks.
Ensures adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers.
