The National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools (NCCMT) is seeking to hire a Communications Assistant. This position will provide specialized knowledge and skills to support the Communications Coordinator in promoting and marketing the National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools (NCCMT) and partners (e.g., the five other National Collaborating Centres, Health Evidence TM , and collaborating researchers at McMaster University).
The successful candidate will:
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Be able to work in a fluid environment, work well independently, and manage multiple competing priorities;
- Understand the Canadian public health system.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the Communications Coordinator in developing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies designed to inform public health decision makers of relevant resources and training opportunities;
- Ensure relevant policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines are applied, according to various funding-specific and project-specific requirements;
- Arrange for translation of all communications and marketing materials;
- Assist in preparation of communications and marketing materials for internal and external audiences in print and electronic formats, including reports, presentations, website content and email communications;
- Proofread and edit various documents and presentations prepared by staff;
- Prepare and distribute weekly ‘Round-up’ e-newsletter (collect content from team members; write promotional items; format campaign in English and French);
- Organize conference exhibits, meetings, and other events and promotions for internal and external audiences;
- Support the Communications Coordinator in the role of spokesperson for the NCCMT and in answering written and oral inquiries;
- Write promotional messages and disseminate using a variety of social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn); monitor and respond to social media activity;
- Use CMS to keep website content current (English and French websites for NCCMT);
- Contribute to development of graphic asset library and oversee ongoing population and indexing of graphic materials;
- Collaborate with staff to plan, coordinate and implement various communication projects;
- Participate in regular staff meetings and provide specialized communication updates;
- Ensure consistent adherence to NCCMT branding and style guidelines.
Knowledge of numerous software is required, including:
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- CRM/Customer relationship management software (ACT!)
- Web-based conferencing software
The Communications Assistant will possess a university degree or college diploma in public relations, communications, journalism or a related discipline. This position will work closely with and report to the Communications Coordinator. Fluency in written and spoken French, and experience working within the health sector would be considered assets.
