Reporting to the Senior Director, OPVPA, and with dotted-line reporting to the Associate Provost (International), the Senior Advisor, Strategy and Operations (International) will be responsible for undertaking in-depth research and analysis (including cost/benefit analysis) on a range of issues, and will develop measurable institutional goals, benchmarks and performance indicators with respect to University’s international activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with various stakeholders, the incumbent will develop and evaluate business cases for new initiatives, advise on the development of new academic programs with an international orientation, and prepare detailed briefings and proposal documents for the Associate Provost (International) and other members of the Provost’s senior team, and oversee the management of requests for inter-institutional and agreements and partnerships.
  • The Senior Advisor will help to identify, assess, and implement opportunities to develop international teaching and strategic research collaborations as relevant to the particular interests and expertise of faculty and students across all Faculties; opportunities for students to situate their learning in a global context through curriculum that reflects a global perspective and through opportunities for greater international mobility; opportunities to expand the University’s reach and sustain collaborations through digital connections; opportunities for revenue-generation that expand the University’s reach; and mechanisms for attracting and retaining international Faculty.
  • As the senior staff position within the international team, the Senior Advisor will also take on a leadership role. The responsibilities of this position will also require open communication and close collaboration with colleagues across the University, and in particular with the Offices of the Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning), the Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation), and the Faculties, as well as with other areas of responsibility within the Office of the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), particularly the Analysis, Planning and Budget team.

Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree

Five (5) years’ related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Graduate degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality research and data analysis with minimal supervision. Demonstrated project management experience. Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize, meet multiple deadlines. Deep understanding of University systems, trends in post-secondary education in Canada and internationally. Familiarity with McGill and the Quebec post-secondary education system would be beneficial. Ability to work independently and to self-govern as well as to function effectively in a team and assume responsibility for staff development and leadership where required. Excellent communications skills, written and verbal; ability to communicate in both English and French.
