Laboratory Technician-Contract (6 months)

As a Laboratory Technician your main responsibilities are:
Receive and sort water/soil samples for the testing of Volatile Organic Compounds.
Organize samples in boxes for storage in the laboratory refrigerators.
Maintain accurate records of each sample location using Excel.
Prepare samples for pre-screen analysis by Headspace GC/MS.
Spike standards through the headspace vial septum into each sample.
Perform analysis of water/soil samples using Headspace GC/MS.
Perform calibration and verification of laboratory instrumentation.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when performing sample preparation and basic testing procedures.
Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis.
Ensure instruments are maintained in optimized and calibrated conditions.
Perform MS source cleaning as required.
Participate in the ordering and storage of laboratory consumables.
Daily check and record temperature of the refrigerators and standard freezers.
Ensure samples are pre-screened efficiently within time frame required by analytical personnel.
Reviews LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work.
Retrieve and track samples proactively.
Maintain up to date training documentation in Compliant Pro.
You are the ideal Laboratory Technician if you have the following:
Post-secondary education or technical diploma in Chemistry or the equivalent.
Previous experience working with Headspace analysis and GC/MS will be an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good problem solving and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of work production in a fast paced lab environment.
Ability to repeatedly lift 15 lbs.
Flexible in working hours (evenings, weekends) during peak periods as required
