Lab analysts will be assigned to various areas of the lab according to business and client needs.

As a LABORATORY ANALYST 1, your main responsibilities are:

  • Analyze and assess both physical and compositional properties of petroleum samples in various areas, including but not limited to:
    • Dean Stark, rotovap for removal of solvent from DS extract samples, methylene blue, sieving and Position Sensing Detector (PSD) by laser analyses, sub-sampling, filtering, grinding, and mixing
  • Utilize a wide variety of instruments such as titrators and analyzers
  • Efficiently handle glassware equipment for extractions, refluxes and preparation
  • Maintain proper calibration and quality control records
  • Perform and document routine maintenance procedures
  • Troubleshoot and understand analytical equipment
  • Report instrument breakdowns to Supervisor and inform senior staff of any sample integrity related issues
  • Ensure adherence to Maxxam’s policies, certifications and accreditations

You are the ideal LABORATORY ANALYST 1 if you have:

  • Post secondary education in a related field ie. Chemical Technology diploma
  • Familiarity with Dean Stark testing
  • Basic chemistry knowledge for application in a laboratory setting; previous experience in a laboratory setting is a strong asset
  • Flexibility to switch between assigned responsibilities with a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast paced and changing environment
  • Basic understanding of computer use
  • Good organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) would be an asset


  • Work Schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day.
  • Must be flexible to work different types of rotating shifts
  • Early day shift and late afternoon shifts are required
  • Ability to work overtime and on weekends as required by the business
  • Ability to work alone and independently or in small groups while complying with Maxxam’s Working Alone Policy
