Reporting to: Coordinator of Library Services

Category: Support Staff

Status: Contract

Working Hours: Weekdays, 35 hours – 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Hourly Rate: $18.86 to $28.01

Contract Dates: February 6, 2017 to March 31, 2017


The Library Technician is responsible for providing reference and information services to students, faculty and staff, as well as tasks related to the acquisition of books and non-print items. As member of the team, promotes the Library’s services and resources to the Marianopolis community.


Reference/Information Services

 Provides reference/information services at the Reference Desk, as required, and assists users with database and catalogue searching, citation styles, evaluation of sources for quality and relevance, and more as required.

 Provides assistance in the use of computers and troubleshoots hardware and software issues

 Places orders for print and non-print items, maintains related files, and processes invoices, claims and cancellations

 Assists with Circulation services and with films and music bookings as required

 Ensures that loan policies and Library guidelines are followed by all Library users

 Catalogues non-print materials as required

 Encourages and upholds an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and reflection in the library

Fulfills other duties as required


 Service-oriented with a proven track record working with the public in a welcoming, positive, and professional manner

 Ability to interact and work effectively with various groups, including students and with Faculty and Staff

 Detail-oriented with a high level of efficiency; diligent with rules and procedures

 Energetic, with strong interpersonal and communication skills

 Highly organized, with an ability to set priorities and meet deadlines

 Ability to work independently and as part of a team


 Diploma of college studies (DEC) in Information and Library Technologies or an attestation recognized as equivalent

 Reference experience in an academic library is an asset

 Proficiency in library management software and Microsoft Office

 Bilingual in English and French
