ADMISSIONS OFFICER Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 Hrs/Week)

The Admissions Officer is responsible for evaluating and processing all full-time program applications for both domestic and international students. The Admissions Officer monitors daily/weekly application volume to ensure backlogs are addressed and established deadlines are met.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accurately and efficiently assesses and processes student applications.
  • Uses the Student Information System and the Online Application System to move applicants through various stages of the admissions process.
  • Provides follow-up and consultation to applicants on admission processes, requirements, and testing procedures.
  • Accurately enters data in the Student Information System and Admissions System.
  • Maintains and prioritizes ongoing waitlists, both hardcopy and electronic, providing information as required to the Admissions Coordinator.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Institute’s programs, admissions policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and reports any system and process issues and recommends improvements.
  • Collaborates with the Admissions team to prioritize processing and distribution of work.
  • Provides admissions advising and guidance to applicants, students, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Advises on the outcome or status of an admissions decision and provides guidance on next steps.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all admissions-specific inquires received by email, phone or in-person to ensure courteous and accurate information/direction is provided on a variety of issues.
  • Supports admissions-related process/system improvement projects.
  • Provides back-up for other team members during absences.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Experience providing high level customer service to a diverse clientele in an office, service or educational setting.
  • Relevant work experience in a post-secondary setting in the area of international admissions is considered an asset.
  • Experience assessing both domestic and international secondary and post-secondary credentials as well as English Language proficiency.
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing pressure associated with numerous high-volume tasks in a busy service environment.
  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
  • Strong collaboration, teamwork and people skills.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
  • Knowledge of international educational equivalencies would be considered an asset.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software; previous experience using a Student Information System and reporting systems also an asset.
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills including cross-cultural sensitivity to the needs of immigrants, newcomers and international students.
