Licensed Practical Nurses may be considered at the rate of: $28.98 to $33.45 hourly.
Registered Psychiatric Nurse may be considered at the rate of: $35.55 to $41.92 hourly.

The Women’s Correctional Centre (WCC) – the Women’s Correctional Centre (WCC) is located in Headingley, Manitoba. The Centre was completed and opened in 2012. This is a multi-level security centre.

WCC is currently searching for a Registered Nurse (RN/RPN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work on a regular part-time basis and term part-time basis. Candidates are asked to consider the following before applying: day, evening and weekend shift work is required. This environment is highly autonomous and requires nursing staff to work independently and in consultation with the on-call physician. The successful candidate will have the ability to make critical decisions, utilize standards of practice, policy and procedure as well as access resources while working alone. This is a challenging, fast paced environment providing a unique experience not seen in traditional nursing roles.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Nursing Licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM), or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • CPR-HCP Certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check AND Satisfactory .Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Satisfactory Security Check.
  • Satisfactory Certificate of Medical Fitness.
  • Ability to work days, evenings and weekends is required.


  • Experience performing clinical assessments.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.


  • Experience in a similar environment such as emergency, medical, surgical or community programs.
  • Knowledge of communicable diseases, main signs and symptoms of alcohol or drug misuse.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture.

The incumbent will be a member of the health care team reporting to the Health Service Manager in a correctional centre. Responsibilities include: responding to emergency situations; assessment of immediate acute and chronic health care needs including health stabilization; medical examinations; resident/staff education; administering of medication; treatment of illness/injuries; and crisis intervention. Triages and refers clients to appropriate health care professionals; develops treatment plans for residents; implements, assesses and refers to programs and interventions in cooperation with other professionals. As a member of the medical team, the incumbent must be able to work with considerable independence and without direct supervision. Some weekend and shift work will be required.
