Maderra Engineering is currnelty seeking a qualified individual for the position of Deputy Area Construction Manager – Balance of Plant in Muskrat Falls, NL.

Responsibilities

  • Support coordination of a multi-functional team of Shift Engineers and Construction Monitors to ensure construction management objectives are fulfilled for relevant construction areas. This will include ensuring that work is done safely, on time and within budget and to the right quality standards. The incumbent will also occasionally assume the responsibilities of the Area Construction Manager Mechanical and Electrical when the Area Construction Manager is on rotation.
  • Foster a sense of team; establish and maintain the productive working environment for the Area Construction Management Team. Support in the evaluation of the performance for each of his team members and to train and assist his team members in their personal development.
  • Ensure that Area Construction Management Team has a clear understanding of priorities and the plan ahead, and that all members work in unison to achieve the plan. As such, communicate the objectives of quality, time, costs and Project Instructions to the construction area or discipline management team, and to make sure that the team complies with these objectives.
  • Oversee the activities, when delegated, of all contractors engaged in the construction to ensure their obligations are fulfilled, while ensure all active interfaces are well managed.
  • Support team members in managing the integration of the Balance of Plant’s contractor’s scopes with the activities of other contractors. Assist with the integration planning and execution of mechanical and electrical works into the Intake and Powerhouse civil works program so as to enhance opportunities to de-risk the overall timeline to First Power.
  • Proactively identify and help resolve any site issues that may impede Project delivery.
  • Review contractor’s work schedule and progress to ensure all project milestones are achieved. Review contractor’s plans to verify constructability. Ensure that the contractors are updating their detailed work schedules in accordance with the project plans and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering (electrical or mechanical) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working on large-scale hydro-electric projects considered an asset.
  • Experience with multi-contractor work-face management and coordination.
  • Experience facilitating and resolving interfaces among contractors.
  • Commercial management experience.
  • Experience in contract administration and progress verification.
  • Strong background in industrial relations, with previous track record of successfully executing works with Building Trades.
