Part Time (.8eft) Therapist – Clinical Services

Macdonald Youth Services requires an experienced Therapist within the Clinical Services Team. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, this position provides clinical services within the ARCH Service Area. Utilizing a variety of assessment strategies and tools, the Therapist is required to complete a comprehensive assessment of each youth’s functioning and develop recommendations for placement and/or treatment. The Therapist also provides clinical direction to the staff care team and collaborates with the Program Manager, guardian, family and external agencies to ensure the needs and strengths of each youth are identified and a plan to address these is established.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Therapist include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviews client referral information and assesses suitability for placement
  • Directs and coordinates the assessment process for each youth upon admission, including a system meeting within a month of intake, and a planning meetings
  • Completes a comprehensive assessment for each youth’s level of functioning including social, emotional, family, academic, job skills and behavioural and makes recommendations for placement and/or treatment, and clinical supports
  • Completes risk assessments and develops corresponding individualized safety plans
  • Collaborates with the youth, guardian, family, collaterals and staff care providers during the assessment process to ensure that all aspects of the youth’s physical, mental, social, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs are acknowledged and addressed in the development of recommendations that increase the likelihood of success in future placements
  • Provides clinical consultation and topic specific training as needed to develop greater awareness, skills or strategies consistent with a trauma-informed approach to healing/recovery
  • Consults with MYS clinical team routinely to facilitate the best standard of care for our youth
  • Assists the Program Manager and staff in developing youth-specific day programming and setting objectives and activities to facilitate the achievement of overall therapeutic goals
  • Maintains working knowledge of and liaises with community agencies and resources
  • Facilitates collaboration among all systems involved with youth in the assessment, delivery and coordination of services designed to meet the youth’s goals and objectives
  • Represents MYS in multi-system meetings as necessary
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of all clinical activities
  • Creates an environment that supports personal development, wellness, and team building
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in an applicable Human Services field with potential for professional designation and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervised clinical setting working with adolescents. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience related to the understanding and completion of a variety of assessment tools and strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the challenges as well as the therapeutic needs of youth in community care settings
  • Familiarity with multiple techniques and demonstrating knowledge of best practice treatments and trauma focused interventions for children and youth with complex needs
  • Formal training in the areas of family dynamics, trauma treatment, cognitive-behavior therapy, trauma-informed care, expressive techniques and other modalities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Willingness to obtain training as per MYS policy

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Is a member in good standing with a professional association and is registered or licensed by a governing body
  • ASIST (or comparable), NVCI, Mental Health First Aid
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and experience working with Indigenous youth, agencies and community organizations will be considered an asset

SALARY RANGE: $43,603.78 – $61,176.66 d.o.q. per annum (pro-rated to part time hours). MYS offers a competitive benefit package and pension plan.

HOURS OF WORK: (.8eft) 7 hours a day, 4 days a week
