Full Time Assistant Coordinator – Specialized Individual Placement Services

Macdonald Youth Services requires an experienced full time Assistant Coordinator within the Specialized Individual Placement (SIP) service area. The Assistant Coordinator, in consultation with the Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor, establishes plans/objectives and procedures to guide the Service area/program’s operations and development. The Assistant Coordinator is responsible to ensure that service to youth is carried out within the context of the MYS mission and policies and the SIP vision and purpose statements. The Assistant Coordinator is also responsible to represent the SIP service area both externally and internally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Assistant Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

Overall Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent the Agency externally and internally
  • Chair all necessary meetings when the Coordinator is not available
  • Ensure collaboration amongst all systems involved with youth
  • Attend applicable meetings such as: Service Area Management, staff, and Systems meetings

Supervision

  • Motivate, lead and supervise: Streetreach workers, Day Program Educators, Retention/Recruitment Supervisor and Admin staff
  • Ensure salaried staff’s performance management is completed
  • Ensure ongoing training and development for staff is completed by Program Managers
  • Ensure Progressive discipline is being followed according to MYS policies and procedures

Administration

  • Ensure all SIP and provincial licensing standards and procedures are maintained, reviewed and audited for quality assurance and best practice
  • Maintain financial records and budget statements
  • Provide assistance with hiring for all positions within SIP as needed

Youth Related

  • With Clinical Supervisor, review referrals and provide input into placement decisions
  • Ensure that youth intake and discharge planning is effectively completed
  • Ensure therapeutic delivery of service to the youth in the programs regarding life planning, daily programming, education, mental and physical health, using a strengths based approach
  • Work with the Clinical Supervisor to ensure clinical input in service plans and training/educating staff to increase their ability to work with the youth
  • Ensure that all treatment plans are developed and implemented by staff teams in the context of the youth’s strengths, successes, skills, personal/social/cultural resources and interests
  • Ensures that Admission Conferences, quarterly Progress Reports and Life Planning meetings are completed within appropriate timelines
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree in a Human Services field with several years’ experience in managing/supervising (a combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience working in the Child and Family Services system
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be an effective team member
  • Understanding of behavior management and ability to balance clinical/management objectives
  • Knowledge of licensing regulations within the Province of Manitoba

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of a strengths based approach and practical application
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary therapeutic environment
  • A working knowledge of both the mental health system and youth justice system
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), or comparable
  • Training in Child Development, Colonization, and Cultural Awareness
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Skills Training
  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s licence

SALARY RANGE: $55,000 – $68,340 d.o.q per annum. MYS offers a competitive benefit package and pension plan.

HOURS OF WORK: 7 hours daily/ 35 hours per week
