You have strong skills in health, safety and environment (HSE) management in the field and are ready to meet new challenges in a full growth stimulating environment? Termont is presently looking for an individual with strong leadership and with excellent communication skills to fill the position of Director – Health, Safety and Environment at our Montreal Head Office. The successful candidate will report to the General Manager.

You will be in charge of :

  • With site management guidance, implement and pilot the implementation of strategic initiatives for health and safety in order to achieve company objectives, assist the management team to find the right balance between short-term demands and long-term benefits of strategic programs of health and safety to inspire active commitment in the programs and toward health and safety objectives
  • Cooperate with upper management, with health professionals and various partners in order to reduce not only the incident rate, but also associated costs.
  • Implement recognitions systems.
  • Promote HSE to all company levels, publicize and celebrate success to maintain and strengthen everyone’s commitment.
  • Ensure that the plans, policies and procedures for health, safety and industrial hygiene are consistent with applicable rules.
  • Keep a record, to control and correct deficiencies in the area of security.
  • Supervise HSE audits in all sites, recommend preventive measures, participate in setting priorities and make sure management implements appropriate corrective measures.
  • Train management for best practice on security, prevention approach and working in presence of dangerous substances.
  • Help supervisors to fill out all necessary documentation linked to accident management.
  • Fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance of corporate guidelines and policy.
  • Create, manage and implement contingency plans for the company and respond to emergencies regarding health & Safety.
  • Monitor issues related to industrial hygiene and their long-term effects, factors such as exposure to chemical agents, noise, heat and moisture, always according to current regulation.
  • Monitor accident-hazard activities and stop any operation or activity that shows imminent danger to staff or to equipment.
  • Implement training programs to familiarize staff with safety practices and promote a safety culture.

You have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and /or related to Health, Safety and Environment;
  • Certificate in Health and Safety (an asset);
  • Have at least six to ten (6-10) years of experience in health, safety and environment management;
  • Good knowledge of the following programs : 5S, BBS & Dupont;
  • Experience with SST prevention in manufacturing and in syndicated industry;
  • Excellent capacity to maintain good relations with all management levels;
  • Good sense of policy and a positive outlook;
  • Good knowledge of legislation, regulations, current health and safety standards, as well as CNESST policy;
  • Ability to influence and to manage priorities;
  • Proven ability to establish a health, safety and environment culture within an organization;
  • Excellent sense of analysis and strong problem-solving ability;
  • Ease in working within a team and in a constant and fast-changing work environment;
  • Perfectly bilingual (English and French) spoken and written, a must.
