Overview:

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Beauty at Shoppers Drug Mart, the incumbent works directly with the Loblaw Beauty Category Management team and the Divisions to manage all flyer, off-shelf merchandising, pricing and store communication pertaining to Beauty categories for all Loblaw Divisions. The incumbent will work directly with Loblaw Divisions on supporting Beauty and engaging with the right opportunities and strategies to connect Beauty with total store. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and supporting category initiatives to optimize sales and margin and enhance customer experience for Beauty within the Loblaw Divisions. The incumbent works in collaboration with the Beauty Category Management team to identify new opportunities to drive sales, margin and market share, conducts the appropriate analysis to evaluate opportunities, provide recommendations and influence decision making, and facilitates execution of approved initiatives.

This position requires an advanced level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in every day working relationships.

• Advanced understanding of merchandising, category management principles (planograms) and store operations (layout planning and implementation)
• Business acumen – advanced understanding of quality standards relative to merchandising and store planning concepts.
• Collect, analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data from multiple data sources, including primary and secondary market research as well as internal data, using a variety of research and analytical methods
• Use analysis to validate and/or support establishment of category strategies, including articulation of category role, positioning, customer value proposition, product mix, and merchandising
• Identify specific tactics and opportunities to execute strategies and meet financial targets, such as changes to assortment, planogram optimization, customer segment strategies, etc.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team members to execute on approved strategies including facilitating team meetings and follow-up, managing strategic and day to day operational aspects of initiatives, problem solving as necessary, establishing measurement plan and tracking results, soliciting feedback from various stakeholders across the organization
• Support communication of strategies, status of initiatives and results to internal stakeholders through progress reports, one-on-one meetings, and presentations
• Ensuring a thorough understanding of key systems and processes, and other key contacts and business partners
Skills, Experience & Education:
Minimum of five years category management, merchandising, business, or equivalent experience
• Post-secondary education equivalent to a University Degree in Business, Retail Management, Merchandising or equivalent
• Ability to apply strategic thinking and creativity to develop unique, innovative approaches to meet category financial and performance targets and help differentiate LCL Beauty from competitors
• Strong analytical skills to synthesize and interpret data (quantitative & qualitative) and apply insight from a variety of sources
• Specialized interpersonal skills to resolve situations with a broad range of stakeholders where there may be some level of conflict, stress or uncertainty
• Utilize sound judgment and business knowledge to achieve specific organizational objectives with an understanding of their impact on other work groups
• Demonstrated leadership in people and change management
• Strong organizational and project management skills to prioritize multiple work streams across multiple stakeholders with varying deadlines
• Strong presentation skills, communicating across all levels of the organization
• Advanced computer skills to effectively produce reports, documents and presentations
