Our client, a Toronto Hospital is seeking an Interim Director of Finance to lead the finance team and offer strategic solutions to identify financial risks and optimize efficiency. This exciting role offers candidates the challenge of turning around an underperforming finance team. Your focus will be to perform a full review of the team, processes and procedures to provide key recommendations to the CFO and then begin to improve the operational effectiveness of the team. Successful candidates must have financial leadership experience of 7+ years in the healthcare sector.


  • Motivate and manage a team of 10 to ensure delivery of financial information to the hospital is accurate, timely and relevant;
  • Perform an operational review of the team, processes and procedures providing recommendations;
  • Rebuild trust and confidence in the finance team and instill a customer service culture;
  • Provide key analysis to the CFO and internal stakeholders;
  • Offer solutions to mitigate exposure and identify financial and business risks;
  • Manage the operating and capital budgeting process;
  • Review and propose financial and accounting policies and procedures in order to maintain effective internal controls, ensure data integrity for reporting purposes and to safeguard company assets;
  • Oversee monthly processes including closing, financial reporting, variance analyses and forecasting;
  • Manage day-to-day financial transactional processes, such as invoicing, projects, payables, and receivables;
  • Prepare annual consolidated financial statements and coordinate the yearend audit with external auditors;
  • Ensure programs, revenue streams and MOHLTC/LHIN are reconciled;
  • Efficient and effective annual yearend audit and other audits as required.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Experience:

  • Accounting designation, CA, CPA, CGA or CMA;
  • 10+ years working knowledge in accounting and finance in a healthcare environment with 7 or more years as a Finance leader;
  • Strong familiarity working with the HSFR, HBAM’s and working with the LHIN’s;
  • Thorough experience leading large and diverse finance teams;
  • Strong technical accounting experience;
  • Exceptional Interpersonal skills, a collaborative style and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels;
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively within time constraints.
