You’re a driven, forward-thinking seasoned Estimator with 10+ years of experience working in multi-disciplinary high and mid-rise residential and commercial construction projects. You will leverage your problem solving skills to perform quantity take offs, cost analysis, sub-trade negotiations, competitive bid management and document control. Performs quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by Ledcor policies and applicable legislation
Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, performs complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review
Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the project team in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, standards, rules and regulations
Solicits trades regarding bid invitations, pricing, addenda, and tender/bid closings; Assists in the selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database
Evaluates and presents or supports the presentation of estimate proposals, budgeting and bidding
Prepares conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data
Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements
Researches and analyzes cost data for review and presentation to management
Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with other estimating staff, all levels of management, clients and Industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
Manages bids and provides guidance in programing and pre-construction phases
Attends major trade pre-award meetings as required
May perform other related duties as assigned
10+ years estimating experience preferably within high/mid-rise residential and/or commercial construction
Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering or related education
Has developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment
Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness
Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and Estimating software (On Screen Takeoff, Timberline)
Ability to manage multiple priorities, project deadlines and locations
Ability to identify problems/issues, looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications and generates new solutions to complex problems
Explains and presents complex ideas while anticipating potential challenges, prepares case accordingly to influence others
Ability to act as a facilitator and mentor, move the team forward and may be a team leader or conduct performance management meetings for supporting or professional staff
Ability to close complex tenders/bids and proposals
Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements
Office based position; occasional travel to project sites may be required
