The Environment Division of Baastel has become a major actor in environment consulting, with internationally recognised competences in the fields of climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries, biodiversity conservation and protected areas management, agriculture (especially in relation to climate change), sustainable water and land management, low-carbon and resilient cities, energy efficiency, early warning systems and disaster risk management. Its clients include United Nations organizations (UNDP, UNEP, WFP, UNFCCC), bilateral donor agencies, multilateral financial institutions (World Bank, European Commission, Asian Development Bank, Global Environment Facility), governments of developing countries and civil society organizations.

Baastel is looking for a full-time Intermediate Level Climate Change and Development Expert with a strong background in climate change and natural resource management, applied specifically to developing country contexts. Successful applicants will have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or higher in Climate Change studies, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Economics, International Development, or other relevant degrees in social and environmental sciences. Short-term travel will be required in developing regions where Baastel works, including in particular Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Role :

Work as part of the Baastel Environment Team on its mandates in the climate change thematic area in research and feasibility studies, policy and strategy development, project design and management, project and programme monitoring and evaluation, and other related tasks.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • Hold a Master’s degree in Climate Change Studies, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Policy, Environmental Economics, International Development, or other relevant degrees in social and environmental sciences applied to developing countries contexts;
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience, specifically on climate change adaptation and/or mitigation and development, with a strong track record in climate finance and in conducting cost-benefit analysis;
  • Experience in project management – especially feasibility assessment, design and/or monitoring and evaluation – is an asset;
  • Advanced knowledge of econometrics;
  • Field experience in developing countries;
  • Full proficiency (reading, writing speaking) in English and French. Excellent writing skills required;
  • Knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset, in particular Spanish and/or Portuguese;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Organized, with the ability to work autonomously and under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • At ease working in cross-cultural contexts
  • Attention to detail, teamwork, initiative, energy and motivation;
