The purpose of this position is to support the Chairman and CEO of Lazard Canada in his role to establish the firm as a pre-eminent independent advisor in Canada. The successful candidate will support internal accounting functions, monthly and yearly budget preparation and will leverage strong HR and Canadian employment experience.

Duties and responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Reporting

Support Lazard New York Accounts Payable in documenting and processing complete and accurate information for all Lazard Canada invoices

Support the Bookkeeper/Canada-related Finance personnel in NY with accounting as well as annual/quarterly budget and forecast preparation

Focus on cost management and cost optimization

HR/Compliance and Risk Management

Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation

Manage and facilitate Mid-Year and Year-End Performance Management Reviews

Oversee employee hiring, summer intern school recruitment and personnel changes

Partner with Lazard New York Payroll and Benefits teams to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner

Assist with the implementation of Lazard Canada Employee Pension Plan

Monitor Lazard Canada Compliance Policies and Procedures to ensure that organizational risks are minimized

Monitor all legislation relevant to the organization (employment standards, occupation health and safety, human rights, etc.) and all regulations on professional certification to ensure compliance

Office Administration

Oversee and supervise the administrative function of the organization including reception, property/facility management, safety of the work environment, and provision of furnishings and equipment necessary for effective operations

Partner with Lazard New York to oversee the management of all leases, contracts and other financial commitments

Develop and design engaging client marketing events and team off-site gatherings

Coordinate logistics for pending real estate move

Information Technology (support role)

Support Lazard IT in evaluating the need for new technology to meet Lazard Canada’s advisory and operation goals.

Liaise with IT and Infrastructure Support to maintain integrity of Lazard Candidate IT systems and services

Qualifications

Education: BA Business/BComm

Specialized knowledge: Reporting, Budget Preparation, Knowledge of HR/Compliance

Ability to work within a global firm / matrix environment

Good business acumen and analytical skills

Strong relationship-building skills

Ability to integrate quickly in a small and growing team

Resourceful, team player who possesses sound judgment

Experience: 10 years’ experience in a similar environment
