Duties: In cooperation with the department coordinators of Steamfitter, Carpentry, Electrical, Instrumentation programs, the incumbent will plan, develop, test and implement laboratory procedures;
Responsible for supporting all maintenance, organization, operation, designing, installation, planning of the various shop/lab facilities;
Provides assistance to students in the safe operation of lab equipment;
Prepares instructional materials, as directed by faculty, and provides technical expertise of a specialized nature to students by demonstrating and explaining previously taught theory to students;
Assists in the planning and specifications for altering or installing new equipment in shops and labs, as required;
Upkeep consumable materials and supplies-off-load and store/stock orders for all trades related programs;
Maintain all records related to: WHMIS, maintenance schedules, ongoing inspections, identify any safety hazards and lock faulty equipment out until repaired;
Troubleshoots, repairs, installs and performs preventative maintenance on equipment and systems as needed;
Other duties which may be assigned.
Qualifications: Certificate of Qualification in a Construction Trade is required; preferably in Electrical, Carpentry or Pipefitter;
Three (3) or more years construction trades or maintenance shop experience is required. Support experience in a training environment is an asset;
First Aid Certificate, forklift certificate and training in WHMIS are preferred;
Ability to demonstrate the use and application of shop equipment, lab materials; basic knowledge of replacement parts for equipment repairs;
Demonstrated knowledge of health & safety regulations and safety control measures;
A thorough understanding of technical theory related to trade qualifications;
Perform the essential physical demands of this position such as lift and/or move more than 50 pounds; have good manual dexterity; ability to climb ladders; reach to repair and replace; stoop, bend and lift; and work in confined spaces;
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills in order to communicate with internal and external contacts, students, faculty and staff;
Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and evaluation skills required to troubleshoot, problem solve and provide solutions to a wide variety of situations;
Demonstrated commitment to student success and satisfaction;
Ability to learn new technical information quickly and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in the Apprenticeship/Trades field.
Ability to work and make decisions independently as well as demonstrate a high level of initiative is essential;
Set priorities, initiate action, organize multiple tasks, and responsibilities to maintain the flow of work and meet deadlines.
