The Safety Supervisor is responsible for the administration, promotion and auditing of local Health, Safety and Environmental programs to ensure compliance with Group policies & procedures and provincial regulations.


Health and Safety:
Promote safety culture through regular engagement with managers/employees, administration and auditing of local and regional initiatives to ensure that site equipment and processes meet or exceed all government and Lafarge guidelines.

Develop and assist with the execution of strategies to minimize employee and contractor exposure to risk and improve procedural onsite safety.

People Management:
Develop, coordinate and conduct effective H&S and Environmental training programs for area supervisors/employees in order to develop and promote safety/environmental efficiencies and improvements.

Assist with the administration and execution of the progressive discipline program.

Production Management:
Assist with the development of “Safe Work Practices” as part of LNA maintenance strategies to mitigate exposure to risk and optimize Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and manufacturing efficiencies.

Financial Management:
Prepare, distribute and track individual budgets for safety/environmental training and other individual programs (equipment purchases, mine rescue, engineering etc)

Training Development & Coordination:
Develop, administer and audit annual safety/environmental training programs for Lafarge employees and area contractors in order to ensure compliance with Internal and ministry requirements (including hazardous substances)

Safety Program Leadership and Development:
Develop, implement and audit short & mid-term safety objectives/vision based on business/operational experience and feedback in order to drive consistency and safety performance at an area and local level. Leadership of the program will include mentorship/support of area resources to ensure successful implementation.


Reports to the General Manager

Works closely with GVA Safety Manager, Mobile & Fixed Maintenance Supervisors, Production Supervisors & JHSC members, and other Group Safety Personnel

Specific Accountabilities

Near Miss process, MVA’s, FA’s, MI’s, LTI’s

Development, administration, auditing and reporting of Group Health & Safety programs (Confined Spaces, Working at Heights, Mobile Equipment Advisory (MEA), Guarding, Contractor safety, Energy Isolation)

Facilitation of Monthly Safety Packages, Monthly OHSC and regular safety meetings, Incidents reviews and reporting (SER’s, NM’s, MI’s, LTI’s, MOL visits), Annual Safety Audits,

Workplace monitoring program (Air sampling, Noise dosimetry),

Drinking water monitoring

Training and coaching of Mine Rescue Team

Cross training safety responsibilities

WHC Development and monitoring

Water quality monitoring

Qualification Profile

Education & Work Experience:
College Degree or equivalent experience ( i.e Safety, Industrial Health or Risk management)

A minimum of five years experience in construction/aggregate industry

Experience and Skill Set:
Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture

Excellent communication, planning & organizational skills

Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset.

Familiarity with OHS and HSRC regulations (mining, industrial & construction) including LOTOTO, Confined spaces (CS), guarding and Working at Height (WAH)

or proceed with Standard Application Form.
