Addictions Counsellor I
Temporary Full Time (Approximately 6 months)
Location: Labrador City

The primary purpose of this position is to provide specialized addictions services to clients, including screening, assessment, counseling, education, referral, and advocacy. In addition to clinical services, the incumbent works with other team members to develop and deliver health promotion and other educations sessions in the community. The incumbent performs job duties within the context of a multidisciplinary Mental Health and Addictions settings.
Qualifications:

” Bachelor of Social Work, Masters of Nursing, or Masters of Psychology;
” Minimum 2 years assessment and counseling experience preferred;
” Knowledge, experience and skills in alcohol, drug & gambling additions assessments, counseling and prevention;
” Experience in crisis intervention and ability to respond to emergent needs of clients;
” Experience and skills in addictions education/prevention, and community development/capacity building including the development and delivery of education and training programs;
” Valid driver’s license;
” The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct.

Duties include:

” Screen referrals; conduct in-depth interviews with clients and families; complete biopsychosocial assessments; identify risk factors for therapeutic intervention options;
” Facilitate individualized treatment planning by involving clients and significant others in evaluation of their assessment; goal setting, identification of treatment strategies and support agencies, and provision of counseling;
” Provide crisis intervention counseling to individuals, couples, and families and related follow-up;
” Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation through the Client Referral Management System and Waitlist Management Database;
” Work closely with the Addictions Coordinator for education and prevention initiatives;
” Maintain a specialized level of knowledge and skill pertaining to additions treatment and education, through ongoing research and review of current literature;
” Ensure compliance with practice standards and accreditation guidelines;
” Provides support to other members of the multidisciplinary team across the region, which may include providing coverage and/or traveling to various parts of the region to assist with service delivery;
” Other related duties as required.

Salary:

” CG – 39 of the NAPE-HP salary scales, $34.36 to $38.45 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:

” 75 hours biweekly, a flexible work schedule may be available.
