Kiewit offers construction and engineering services in a variety of markets including transportation, water/wastewater, power, oil, gas and chemical, building and mining.

Kiewit Offshore Services are recruiting Metal Fabricator (Steelfitter) Apprentice(s) for employment in Marystown, NL. Reporting to the Chargehand, Steelworkers are required to interpret blueprints, and prepare, fabricate and assemble steel components for buildings, tanks, pressure vessels and other similar structures and products.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lay out reference points and patterns on heavy metal according to component specifications (blueprints).
  • Assemble and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting or other methods.
  • Set up and operate various heavy-duty metal-working machines such as brake presses, rolls, shears, cutting torches, grinders, drills and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form heavy metal components.
  • Construct patterns and templates as guides for layouts.
  • Move fabricated units to main structure using overhead, hand-operated, cranes.
  • Burn steel as necessary to prepare for placement of steel beams and steel plates on repair work and new construction.
  • Hook-up, and maintain, extractor hoses for welders and extractors.
  • Forge metal items such as ladders, handrailing, landings, cages, and timber dogs.
  • Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces.
  • Work safely in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Steel Chargehand

QUALIFICATIONS

The skills and abilities required would normally be associated with completion of trade certification in Metal Fabrication. Must be capable of working from heights, working in confined spaces, lifting weights, ascending and descending ladders, gangways, and stairways, and working in an outdoor environment in all seasons.

Preference given to applicants with current NL WHSCC Fall Protection and Confined Space.
