Job Description:

We are seeking a Human Service Worker to join our Social and Personal Development Program team who seeks to engage and empower individuals with disabilities to develop life and employability skills. This position requires a highly organized, flexible, creative, and open-minded individual who is cooperative and works well in a team environment. Must have the ability to; problem solving, think- critically, create and maintain healthy boundaries, communicate clearly and concisely.

Human Service Worker attributes include professionalism, having a mature outlook with good interpersonal skills. This would include developing and maintain a good rapport with all levels of an organization. Possess the ability to research, plan, prepare, implement, evaluate, and update individualized programs and daily schedule, based on client’s learning needs. Complete client assessments, must be able to measure, and document client’s progress. Have the ability to empower and motivate individuals so they can become the best they can be.

Primary tasks include coaching, and guiding others, while establishing a nurturing respectful learning environment. Adapting to different learning styles where everyone one feels comfortable and free to participate. Prepare and carry out activities, follow daily schedule. Demonstrate the able to manage maladaptive behaviors, while providing educational opportunities on cultural norms, personal rights, and responsibilities. Take part in community activities and outings. Participate in Case Management meetings when requested to determine each client’s goals. Develop individualized action plans to aid client in reaching their goals.

Having a good knowledge of community resources would be an asset when assisting clients with volunteer opportunities, employment, and community connections.

  • Strong organizational skills and systems in place for efficient record keeping.
  • The ability to customize activities around client’s interest and needs.
  • Must be open-minded.
  • Adapt a flexible and cooperative approach.
  • Be creative and have a healthy sense of humor.
  • The ability to work independently, and follow through with daily lesson plans.
  • The ability to motivate others.
  • Researching accurate relevant material on activities.
  • Design programs, based on client learning needs.
  • Carry out and maintain client performance reviews.
  • Be comfortable addressing sensitive subjects.
  • Set clear professional boundaries that are consistent.
  • Have the ability to be firm while gently guiding others.
  • Be able to develop positive relationships that empower others to reach their goals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft office.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check and Social Development Check working with the vulnerable sector.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR
  • Mandt Training or Non-violent Crisis Intervention
  • Adhere to the Social Development ADAPT Standard and Key Industries Policies and Procedures.
  • Keen knowledge of community resources, and networking skills.
