Term: Approx. 34 week term, 30 hours per week, $19-20/hour. Possibility of extension.
Start date: late August / Early Sept. 2016

Key Industries is a leader in providing services for people with disabilities in the greater Saint John area and beyond. We’re looking for a facilitator for an adult employment & literacy program. The successful applicant will have strong numeracy and literacy skills, an ability to work with adult job seekers with disabilities (intellectual, learning, mental health & physical), and outstanding communication skills.

Key Industries has several in-house employment programs. Key Industries will be hosting a new program in various agencies across NB in English and French. The new program is called “ Focus Forward” and is based on ESDC’s essential skills. Although the successful candidate will be employed by Key Industries, this position will be stationed at Oromocto Training & Employment Centre (OTEC) , therefore reliability, ethics, an ability to co-operate with host agency, as well as self-manage and problem solve, is imperative.

Must be able to facilitate/teach in the following areas:

  • Workplace numeracy (basic money, time, and measurement math)
  • Workplace literacy (memoranda, notices, training manuals, writing notes & filling out forms, etc)
  • Document Use (symbols, tables, schedules, etc)
  • Customer Service (in person and on the phone)
  • Resumes, cover letters & interview skills

Must have the following attributes:

  • Strong computer skills (use of projector, MS Office, Email; Skype knowledge would be an asset).
  • Dynamic, a sense of humour, and an ability to make learning not “feel like school”
  • Flexible, organized and a clear communicator
  • High level of literacy
  • High competency in the English language, written and spoken

Qualifications & Experience: Preferably university degree in a social science or education with course work in exceptionalities. Experience working with persons with disabilities is a must. Preference may be given to those with certification in Adult Education. Although learning materials are provided, an ability to create and modify them would be an asset. Also, a varied job history would be beneficial to be able to contextualize the learning.

Experience in teaching/facilitating or training is a must.
Must have a current and valid criminal record check with vulnerable sectors and Social Development Record Check (performed within a minimum of 12 months prior to the starting date of the contract, or within a maximum of 30 days following the starting date of the contract).
