Reporting to the Coordinator of Internet Services, the Implementation and Facilities Specialist supports and maintains KRG’s satellite and local distribution networks. He is also responsible for the design, implementation and support of video conferencing and video streaming services and work closely with KRG’s Senior Network Administrator to assist with the implementation of other network services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
installing and maintaining video conferencing facilities including cameras, monitors, projectors and all associate cabling;
installing and maintaining RF networking equipment and their components such as antennas, radio transmitters and cabling;
managing the IT networking infrastructure including routers, switches, cable lines, and rearranging dialing and switching equipment;
monitoring wireless devices and other equipment;
ensuring regular prevention maintenance on existing customer and Tamaani installations;
interacting with NOC for outage and emergencies and reporting problems in NVs that are not remotely apparent;
inspecting and performing tower structural analysis for the placement of antennas and planning cable routes for the installation of other network equipment;
participating in the evaluation of new technologies and the expansion of network systems ;
keeping site documentation of data and voice networks accurate and up to date and developing some diagnostic procedures;
reviewing network implementations regularly to ensure that they meet the needs of the business community of Nunavik;
carrying out any other tasks requested by the supervisor.
Requirements:
possessing a College diploma in a related technology;
having a minimum of two (3) year experience as a network administrator or telecommunications technician;
holding solid experience working with wireless networking (both the software and physical aspects of RF networking including antenna installations and experience with coaxial cabling);
In depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking and working knowledge of H.323 and other video networking protocols;
any of the following will be considered as an asset: Cisco certification, Satellite, wireless or RF knowledge, knowledge of encryption (VPN) and Checkpoint FW1 technology;
being fluent (spoken and written) in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, French;
being available to travel frequently.
PERSONAL QUALITIES:
having excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve unforeseen network problems;
being able to perform work that is physical in nature and under bad weather conditions from time to time (climb ladders, roofs, etc.);
being able to transfer his knowledge to others and explain technical details to customers in an easy understandable manner;
being detail-oriented, structured and being able to work under pressure;
having a strong customer service oriented personality.
Be reliable, autonomous, possess a great sense of initiative and communication skills and be willing to travel in all Nunavik.
Work schedule and place of work: 6-3 rotation schedule: 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages, followed by 3 weeks paid leave (52.5 hours weekly);
OR
Work schedule and place of work: 4-2 rotation schedule: 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages, followed by 2 weeks paid leave (52.5 hours weekly);

Salary:
Min. $45,476 – Max. $77,849 a year (Class 9)
Other benefits:
lodging and boarding when traveling in other communities paid by the Employer, meal and incidental expenses, group insurance, RRSP, etc.
