It’s time! Joist has grown to the point we now need to add a Vice President of Finance to support our continued growth going forward. As a key member of the leadership team, the VP of Finance will report to the President/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This vital role is responsible for the overall financial and accounting operations for the organization. As Vice President of Finance you will develop business strategies that support Joists’ overall mission, drive direction of goals and objectives setting along with responsibility for overall financial leadership and direction.
The VP of Finance will be a dedicated business partner to the CEO, assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and our long-term strategy, develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
The successful candidate will oversee all FP&A, product costing, financial reporting, treasury, financial and risk management for our Canadian and US operations. In this critical role, you will develop and manage an effective finance function with best in class processes and systems that support the growth of the business in both countries. The VP of Finance / CFO is an all-encompassing role, requiring the incumbent to be the CEO’s right hand in all matters related to the Finance role including financing, M&A support, and will serve as a Financial Advisor concerning, but not limited to, banking issues, investments, capital restructuring, corporate tax issues, corporate strategy, and corporate restructuring, as well as management of non-finance functions such as IT, and Admin.
Key Responsibilities
The VP of Finance will have a thorough knowledge of Joists’ operations. Operational responsibilities will include facilitation of the financial management and control of Canadian and US operations on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. The VP of Finance will build on and oversee:
- Operating, Investing, and Financing Activities to maintain adequate levels of cash flow
- Put processes and procedures in place for purpose of financial well-being
- Creation of balance sheet and income statement to perfection and for presentation
- Overall responsibility for the direction of Joist in areas such as capital expenditures, growth, marketplace, etc.
- Contractual agreements and lease commitments
- All financial matters, including but not limited to, banking, investments, and corporate tax and Insurance requirements
- Provide advice and direction to the leadership team
- Responsible for identifying, recommending and implementing continual process improvements
- Assess, recommend, and implement a cash management system that optimizes the efficient utilization of cash and financial services in a manner consistent with the objectives of the Company
- Provide decision support to the CEO and senior management team
- Partner with operations, marketplace, business development and sales to drive profitability, innovation and identify cost savings initiatives
- Oversee and manage corporate policies and internal controls to ensure the company’s financial reporting and general business practices are compliant with security legislation
- Responsible for execution of tax planning initiatives, tax compliance work in multiple jurisdictions (Cda, US ), and transfer pricing compliance
- Provide support for corporate finance activities, business development and strategic business planning processes
- Manage financial information systems including maintenance, evaluation, and implementation of new systems and reporting tools
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with third parties such as external auditors, financial service providers, and other service providers and advisors
- Meet with senior managers monthly to review business segment performance
- Lead and mentor and facilitate the growth of the finance, administration, and HR teams in both Canada and USA
Requirements:
- CA/CPA/CMA with 12+ years’ of progressive financial management experience (at least 5 years in a senior level role with strong preference from someone who has worked in a start up tech high growth company)
- Experience leading and building a scalable and disciplined finance function in a SMB with anticipated significant growth along with budgeting, financial modelling and analysis
- Experience in treasury and corporate tax
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to promote high performance teams
