As a Financial Control Manager and member of the Financial Control team, you will contribute to the operation and maintenance of the Financial Control Framework (FCF) for the Canadian region. You will assist in supporting the FCF team and CFO to provide assurance that the Canadian financial statements are free of material misstatements. This role will be situated in St. John’s while working closely with team members in Toronto.

What you will achieve in this role:

Develop, embed and operate the Canadian financial control environment by:
• assisting the business in maintaining the company’s financial control framework processes
• working with process and control owners to ensure maintenance of process, risk and control documentation
• testing key controls on a regular basis
• conducting risk refresh sessions and process walkthroughs on a regular basis
• assisting in the completion of the annual scoping review process
• overseeing the implementation and integration of any changes to the Canadian control environment required as a result of control testing and/or risk refresh conclusions
• implementing actions and expanding scope coverage as a result of the scoping review
• liaising with senior members of the business to remediate control deficiencies found during testing, and/or designing an implementation plan for new controls identified during the risk refresh and/or scoping exercise
• participating in the quarterly Financial Control Steering Committee meetings with members consisting of the CFO and senior finance, governance and IT management
• assisting in the preparation of quarterly management reporting packs for submission to the Group Financial Control team

What you bring to this role:

• University Degree
• CPA designation
• 3 years’ experience in auditing/accounting/finance role
• Prior involvement in SOX work and methodology an asset
• Internal Control and / or Audit Knowledge
• Knowledge of business processes as they relate to financial reporting and control
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills across all levels of the organization
• Communications (oral & written)
• Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Visio
• Knowledge of IFRS
• Insurance industry experience an asset
• Excellent project and process management skills (time management)
• Strong problem solving ability
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and can handle multiple priorities
