(COMMENCING JUNE 19 UNTIL SEPTEMBER 11, 2016)The Registered Nurse 2, as a member of the health care team, assists with the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the direction of the Nurse Coordinator to promote the achievement and maintenance of each resident’s optimal level of health and functions. Duties include, but are not limited to: – In the absence of the Nurse Coordinator, the RN Supervisor assumes the management responsibilities of the LTC site ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing on all shifts; responds to resident, family and staff concerns and complaints; and emergencies as they occur;- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision of the nursing activities, and / or assume direct care provision for the resident’s required care and documentation necessary;- Accompany attending physician on resident visits; transcribe orders, follow-up and completion of appropriate forms;- Take blood samples as ordered and follow up as required;- Coordinate and / or conduct resident admission process, care conferences, and response to care;- Serve as liaison with physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, and nutritionist and ensure recommendations are documented, communicated to staff and followed up as required;- Check, administer, record and maintain adequate stock supply of medications;- Coordinate and implement the maintenance of Charts and Kardexs;- Monitor and document ongoing physical, social and spiritual needs of residents; ensuring resident needs are met in accordance with facility philosophy and standards;- Timely and accurate completion and processing of Incident Reports and Workers Compensation Board Reports for staff who are injured; and, follow up if required;- Participation on various committees, i.e. infection control, emergency planning, MSIP, to ensure continuous quality improvement on site, striving for best practice;- Assist in the coordination and implementation of flu vaccines to residents and staff (annually); TB testing for residents and staff (bi-annually); and other nursing related activities for residents (i.e.) pneumococcal vaccine;- Coordinate, implement and participate in staff educational in-service sessions and orientation in conjunction with the Nurse Coordinator;- Assist the Nurse Coordinator in developing and maintaining policies and procedures; and educating staff on the same;- Assist in the Performance Development evaluation and plans for staff under their supervision;- Develop and maintain his/her own clinical competency according to his/her own scope of practice; the nursing code of ethics; the policies and procedures of the Provincial LTC Services; and the facility’s Nursing department; and,- Other related RN duties as required.Bi-Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours bi-weekly / 8 and/or 12 hour shifts / Rotating days, nights, evenings / every second weekend- Applicants must have a degree and diploma in nursing from a recognized School of Nursing and be registered with the Association of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island;- Applicants must have supervisory skills and the ability to deal effectively with staff, residents and their families; and other various medical personnel and outside agencies;- Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record.Other Qualifications: – Experience working cognitively impaired elders would be an asset.- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.Note: The collaborative care model on PEI is a province-wide initiative that will involve service delivery changes in all areas of the health system including acute care, long term care, home care, and primary health care. The collaborative care model has not yet been implemented in all unit/work sites.
