Manager, Health, Safety and Environment
Reporting to the Director of HSSE, you will be responsible for the day to day management of the Halifax Shipyard HSE Department.
Primary responsibilities will include managing the HSE Team and HSE initiatives and actively encouraging the implementation of HSE best practices to reach our goal of zero lost time accidents. This is a hands on position and requires regular participation and support for HSE activities in the shipyard including being out in the yard on a regular basis to support HSE initiatives and the HSE Advisors.
Specific roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Review and update as required, existing HSE policies, programs and procedures in consultation with key stakeholders and the JOHS committee.
- Provide ongoing support as required to management in the effective execution of HSE programs and initiatives.
- Assist the RTW Coordinator with the initial management of the injuries to minimize loss potential.
- Manage the HSE inspection and audit process programs.
- Responsible for the accuracy of the Incident Data Base and the generation of required reports and balanced scorecards.
- Manage all incidents to ensure proper investigation and root causes are arrived at with proper corrective actions implemented.
- Assist in the evaluation of products as they relate to HSE.
- Review, monitor and evaluate Contractor Safety Programs and provide ongoing HSE support to
- Production Management and Contractor liaisons.
Knowledge, Skills and Education Requirements:
- Strategic thinker & effective decision maker.
- Ability to multi task and switch priorities as required.
- Strong hands on management skills and strong conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communicator- verbal & written.
- CRSP or 5 years safety management experience in a fast paced industrial environment preferred.
