Job Description

Irving is a regional refining and marketing company serving customers in Eastern Canada and New England. We offer challenging and rewarding employment opportunities throughout our company and are currently looking for a performance-oriented individual with strong leadership skills, for the role of Senior Manager Retail Sales & Operations .

The Senior Manager Retail Sales & Operations is responsible for the financial performance, strategic planning, network growth, network enhancement and a consistent high level of operating standards of Irving Oil’s retail and fleet business in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve network growth targets by adding new locations via new dealers, new distributors, and new Joint Venture locations. Work with Network Development to manage capital, land bank real estate, and develop New to Industry (NTI) locations.
  • Lead and provide a safety culture including personal and process safety.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the sales and operations team to increase leadership capabilities.
  • Achieve financial performance as laid out by annual budget and five year operating and capital plans.
  • Lead and support marketing in developing and implementing a clear value proposition that is competitive and will assist in achieving growth targets.
  • Understand the marketing and sales initiatives and develop the strategy to communicate the programs to the field
  • Develop, implement and maintain market plans working with partners that will form a comprehensive strategic plan (NTI, raze & rebuild, renovations, banner conversions) to grow and improve our network and market share.
  • Responsible to meet or exceed business line KPI’s (i.e. Same Store Sales, VOD, VOC, etc.)
  • Manages a team responsible to ensure all sites in assigned territory are meeting or exceeding defined operational excellence standards e.g. utilizing the standout performance program and working with the Repairs & Maintenance team via case management to improve standards.
  • Develops strategic plans and business cases to ensure successful negotiation of dealer contract renewals.
  • Ensure 100% contract compliance.
  • Proactively collaborate with dealers and joint venture partners to develop and execute growth plans
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our customers including dealer, distributors and Joint Venture partners.
  • Build the Irving brand as a strong supplier in the market.
  • Partner with credit to manage and limit exposure to risk.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of competitors, industry trends, local and regional markets
  • Ability to travel upto 50% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with direct selling and relationship management within the energy sector
  • 7+ years retail industry experience
  • Excellent negotiation skills and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Customer focused with successful relationship management skills
  • A proven track record of profitable sales prospecting and personal contact
  • Established contacts within the fuel supply industry
  • Goal oriented and proven ability to achieve targets
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to manage effectively through change
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
