Job Description

The Charlottetown Terminal Operator is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the Charlottetown Marine Terminal. The successful candidate will have the ability to work varying shifts, be able to multi-task, and be customer focused.


Perform inventory stock balancing, including completing reports such as meter throughput by product, stock reports, and inventory spreadsheets.

Perform maintenance filing and work order completion.

Perform Staff / Customer/ Vendor entry to terminal.

  • Determine if proposed entrant is authorized to be on property, if so, open gate.
  • Sign in visitors and contractors verifying identification and Federal port credentials (TWIC) if applicable
  • Issue work permits (hot/cold work, confined space) verifying safe and secure working conditions for contractors and internal personnel.
  • Ensure authorization and supervision of contractors.
  • Coordinate fire watch with contractors/firemen. Sign in fire watch and advise them of work site safety procedures and locations.

Perform Customer Driver Support.

  • Provide customer driver support in building loads in automated loading systems.
  • Provide driver orientation training on use of terminal systems, safety, and security.
  • Issue driver entry cards, cancel lost and re-issue.
  • Enter new trailers into system – enter data and ensure approval.
  • Receive customer truck vapour tests and proof of insurance – ensure compliance.
  • Provide product and rack information to drivers.
  • Enforce safety and security procedures and ban/lock out drivers as determined with manager consultation.

Supervise product movements truck, rail, and/or ship receipt to include but not limited to:

  • Assemble ship arrival folder, spotting railcars, ordering of produce, gathering gauging information and notification of arrivals.
  • Ship coordination
    • Coordinate with mate, dock and hose crew.
    • Cargo planning, rack shut downs/coordination.
    • Continually monitor transfer rates/states ad product testing.
  • Run inventory reports for/during transfer.
    • Confirm with gauger, enter nominations, files ship folder and confirm with outside inspection company.

Daily Operation Tasks.

  • Complete of SPCC/terminal ops checklist – daily.
  • Complete of clock runs during operational day.
  • Conduct product analysis.
  • Complete end of day inventory report.
  • BOL organization/review/sorting, including set up ship/barge arrival paperwork and issuing permits for early morning start of work.

Provide coordination of quality issues and procedures.

  • Enter product specs into Fuel Facts and LIMS quality confirmation files.
  • File quality documents in ship folder.
  • Sample tracking/filing.
  • Coordinate 3rd party testing and quality specs.
  • Upon approval of Terminal Manager or Supervisor, request quality waivers.
  • Track liquid product specs and complete and review dye calculations, etc.


The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 Diploma and experience in Marine Terminal Operations or similar material handling experience in a related industry. Experience handling hazardous materials is a plus, and mechanical/technical skills related to maintenance trades are preferred. Computer skills, or the ability to quickly attain them, are a necessity.
