COVE, the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship, is a collaborative facility on Halifax Harbour for applied innovation and commercialization in the ocean sector. Our incredible tenants are a mix of exciting new start-ups, growing innovative companies, researchers and large organizations looking for growth through innovation and collaboration. Already an important part of Atlantic Canada’s and Nova Scotia’s economy, COVE will propel the ocean economy by providing marine infrastructure and a collaborative space where ocean enterprises can start, grow, and prosper.
The Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE), operating under the ‘COVE’ name, develops and manages the program, services, and initiatives for COVE members. We also deliver a number of projects and programs, see www.coveocean.com and www.iore.ca. Our intention is to create a place that fosters innovation and cross-pollinates expertise, ideas, and resources among members. To do so, and with the upcoming opening of COVE, IORE is seeking a full-time Receptionist.
Under minimal direction, and with an in-depth knowledge of IORE’s mandates and related activities, office practices and procedures, the Receptionist will be the first point of contact for COVE/IORE. The Receptionist’s duties include interface with COVE tenants, welcoming guests to COVE, supporting events at COVE or otherwise hosted by COVE/IORE, offering administrative support across our organization, coordinating front office operations, coding and posting invoices, and account reconciliations. Multitasking and strong interpersonal skills are essential for this position.
The ideal candidate will have had a minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar role and will be able to demonstrate their ability to fulfill the responsibilities outlined below:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Customer service orientation
Ability to be proactive and resourceful in addressing issues should they arise
Excellent organizational skills
Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of office administration and basic accounting
Experience with Accounting software (Quickbooks) or similar
Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. printers, projector set-up)
Event management experience is an asset
