Position Summary

As a woodworker at IWCO you will spend most days working in our well organized, rural, custom woodworking shop. You will work closely with the owner and one other apprentice in a fun and creative shop environment. There will be a few days a month that will take you to various job sites for deliveries and installations of the beautiful pieces you helped to create. In order to be successful at this position you will need to possess the skills and knowledge to complete most of the tasks listed below. In addition to the ability to complete below listed tasks you will need to possess:

  • The ability to visualize projects, their parts, and how each step will affect the final project
  • The willingness to learn and constantly push yourself to do better
  • An efficiency and productivity based approach to woodwork
  • An ability to stay organized
  • The ability to plan ahead, foresee problems, and problem solve

Tasks involved in this position:

  • Read and interpret shop drawings
  • Follow detailed order of operations, parts lists, and other shop documents
  • Assign stock, both plywood and solid lumber, in order to make best use of the material and ensure the best possible final product
  • Cut parts from plywood with various woodworking machinery
  • Mill rough lumber through the use of a Jointer, Thickness Planer, Table Saw, and other standard woodworking machinery
  • Lay out and cut solid wood joinery both by hand and with power tools and various shop made jigs
  • Assemble complete furniture and cabinetry projects
  • Install furniture and cabinetry hardware on projects
  • Prepare wood surfaces for finishing using power sanders, sanding blocks and hand tools
  • Apply various wood finishes to furniture and cabinetry
  • Install finished furniture and cabinetry projects on site
  • Travel to job sites to take initial measurements
  • Help to maintain a clean and organized shop environment
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and safe-work practices

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Two years carpentry or woodworking experience preferred
