POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Reimbursement Support Specialist coordinates and supports institutional efforts to maximize reimbursement for drug therapy and pharmacy related services as directed. The position is part of an interdisciplinary partnership effort with the health system and requires interaction with patients, and payers both proactively and retrospectively. The position objectives are to remove reimbursement as a barrier for optimally effective drug therapy, maximize institutional and company revenue, and assist with other pharmacy operational activities as directed. This is done in conjunction with the Field Case Manager, to ensure that the physicians and the patients get the most complete support possible.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Identifies and qualifies patients for indigent drug programs at assigned facility;
2. Interfaces appropriately with program administrators for reimbursement assistance programs sponsored by the drug manufacturer;
3. Works in a partnership with Case Managers/Workers;
4. Perform Inbound and Outbound calls as per established programs SOP’s;
5. Keeps apprised of all changes in a particular indigent care program as evidenced by most recent program changes in file or program manual;
6. Develops and maintains close interface with all components of the reimbursement process, including key hospital departments;
7. Ensures that patient specific reimbursement related information is obtained and available for review and for tracking of replacement product;
8. Maintains database comprised of receivables, problems, standard forms and letters and manufacturers who offer reimbursement programs;
9. Tracks and documents cost savings associated with indigent care and reimbursement assistance programs;
10. Assists with the development of reimbursement policies and procedures pertinent to the area of reimbursement within their respective institution.
11. Coordinate pharmacy processes required once funding has been obtained
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare / pharmaceutical/insurance related fields
- Health care research/analysis skills sufficient to support payer research and provincial requirements is an asset
- General knowledge of reimbursement, patient assistance programs, database elements and functionality
