IISD-Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA) was formed to create new ways of bridging applied science with on-the-ground sustainability policy solutions. ELA’s rich history of freshwater aquatic science leading to policy solutions for a wide range of issues, combined with the International Institute for Sustainable Development’s (IISD) experience of policy tools and mechanisms for advancing sustainable development will enable fully-integrated freshwater research. Scientific research and expertise from IISD-ELA can be applied more directly into policy solutions and measurable benefits to societies by linking with IISD’s policy research expertise.
The User Services Coordinator will be based at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, a remote field research station near Kenora, Ontario. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position coordinates administrative services and logistics to support research and operations personnel.
Responsibilities of administrative support include the following:
Coordinate accommodations for all personnel on site
management of the employee and visitor tracking software for invoice and accounting
Greet site users and communicate IISD-ELA policies and procedures
Maintain organized and accurate filing system related to field station operations and logistics
Coordinate vehicle travel to and from Winnipeg and the IISD-ELA field station
Provide logistical support for inventory, purchasing and distribution of accommodation consumables and cleaning supplies
Coordinate collection, disposal and transportation of recyclables and site waste
Manage and maintain network printer, field radio base station, and facility first aid room
Cooperate with the Food Services Coordinator to order, purchase and transport food items and other station supplies from Kenora suppliers on a weekly basis
Coordinate and/or conduct regular cleaning and inspection of common areas (laundry room, hallways, washrooms, lounges) in residences and main laboratory building
Other tasks as assigned
The User Services Coordinator must possess the following qualifications:
Basic computer skills and experience with administrative software
Excellence in written and oral communication
Excellent organizational skills
Enjoy working with people
Pleasant, self-assured demeanor
Ability to work and live in a semi-remote location in dormitory accommodations
Must possess valid First Aid/CPR certificate and driver’s license
A combination of education and work experience in administration and logistics
Experience with spreadsheets and file management
Occupational Health and Safety experience
Room and board while at the IISD-ELA facility is provided, including laundry facilities. Shuttle vans are available to transport people to/from camp each week (to Winnipeg or Kenora).
