IBM is seeking to hire a Software Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist to join our team. IBM Platform Computing is a leader in cluster, grid, and High Performance Computing cloud management software serving more than 2,000 of the world’s most demanding organizations. For over 20 years, its workload and resource management solutions have delivered optimized IT infrastructures, ease of management, and lower costs for commercial, HPC (High Performance Computing), and technical computing clients. In this role, the candidate will be joining our DCOS (Data Center Operating System) team working on new product offerings based on our Cloud-oriented Middleware technology. The position is based in Markham, Ontario.

The Software QA Specialist will be a member of a global, agile development team integrating Platform Computing technologies with open source projects and IBM cloud technologies. The essential duties and responsibilities include product requirement and design review, test requirement definition, test strategy and test case design, test tools development, effective testing and quality assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • working closely with developers and QA specialist as part of a team to deliver high-quality systems software products
  • designing, developing, and executing reusable test plans, ensure effective coverage of test cases to maximize user perceived quality of the product
  • implementing automated test tool frameworks and developing automated test suites to support the team’s continuous integration process
  • participating in product requirements reviews and component testing
  • regression test defects quickly and accurately
  • reviewing and testing product documentation
  • troubleshooting problems with application, utility, operating system, and hardware setup
  • communicating status and issues with Development, Documentation and other related groups
  • assessing product quality for business people to make release decisions
  • providing general technical training to new QA, support engineers, and sales engineers when needed

    Required Skills:

  • documented completion of Computer Science/Computer Engineering or similar technical degree
  • demonstrated understanding of Agile product development and product life-cycle management in highly technical environments
  • demonstrated familiarity with product requirement/design review and use case development
  • demonstrated programming experience with C/C++, Java, Python, and shell scripting languages
  • proven ability to run test cases correctly and identify software defects effectively
  • demonstrated using automated testing tools
  • demonstrated knowledge in Windows/Unix/Linux Administration, Network Administration, Server Administration or the verification of system software
  • demonstrated knowledge of popular open source projects in the cloud and analytics space such as Docker, Mesos, OpenStack, Hadoop, Spark, Database (DB) Mongo, and/or Cassandra


    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • At least 1 year experience in software development of commercial software
    • At least 1 year experience in programming in C/C++, Java, Python, and/or scripting
    • At least 1 year experience in automated test tool implementation and use
    • English: Fluent


    • Master’s Degree in Engineering
