The following student position is a part of IBM Canada’s EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. This position is only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.

This Student Position resides in Markham and is a 16 month work term commencing May 2015.

Main Responsibilities for Information Management Technical Specialist include:

Assist with the coordination of the Insight and InterConnect Conference Lab Programs

Maintain and administer Linux servers used to store lab materials

Test and verify materials submitted by lab instructors to ensure compatibility with our server environment

Execute problem determination/problem source isolation methodologies to resolve complex technical issues

Create and maintain internal conference website

Maintain accurate tracking of lab submission status and provide regular and ad hoc updates, as requested

Participate in technical developer awareness activities such as demonstrations, presentations, and hands-on labs at virtual and face-to-face events (workshops, user groups meetings, conferences, etc)

Communicate daily with lab instructors during lab testing phase to ensure that any issues are resolved in a timely manner

Support other team projects outside of conference work, as required

May require travel to the United States to support the conferences on-site

Desired Qualifications required:
Experience with Linux/UNIX and Windows

Programming skills in object oriented programming (Java, C/C++, C#)

Scripting skills in Perl, PHP, or shell scripts

Understanding of various IT technologies (software architecture, Hardware, Operating systems) and the interactions of these technologies is a must.

Understanding of Database Management systems (e.g. databases such as DB2, Informix, and warehousing product such as InfoSphere Warehouse) and other Information Management technologies is an asset.

Experience with VMware Workstation is an asset

Demonstrated communication skill (verbal and written) is a must.

Experience working in a team environment

Interest in project management

Ability and approval to travel to the United States, if needed

Coop or internship program enrollment is an asset
