Food Service / Housekeeping Aid

Hospice Care Ottawa is a community based organization providing high quality end-of-life care for terminally ill people living in Ottawa. Services aim to provide clients and their loved ones with an experience in palliative and end-of-life care which is supportive and peaceful, free of pain, surrounded by caring that reflects as closely as possible to a comfortable home environment. HCO programs include community and residential hospice services. HCO relies on and values the contribution of over 1000 volunteers who contribute to every aspect of our programs. HCO is looking for people to work in a supportive integrated environment who are committed to providing the highest quality palliative care.

Job Summary:
As a member of the food service and houskeeping departments this part time role supports the food services and housekeeping team. The work is performed in two locations Cameron Avenue and at our temporary Kanata site. This is a physical position where you may spend several hours on your feet, as well as ongoing walking, crouching, and lifting. At the present time this position is a base 24 hours a week role. There can be extra hours of service as needed.
Key Tasks:
Provide direct support to the Food Service Manager with food preparation for client and patient Consumption, including but not limited to preparation, packaging, storing, monitoring expiration
Grocery shop and prepare light lunch meals for our day hospice program
Infection control and cleanliness of healthcare kitchen spaces
Dishes, cleaning appliances and kitchen equipment
Food deliveries to multiple sites
Support in healthcare level housekeeping
Experience & Education preferred:
Minimum of two years in food preparation is mandatory
Understanding of dietary restrictions, allergies etc.
Healthcare housekeeping or institutional janitorial background
Cleaning product awareness
Infection control awareness
Experience using commerical equipment (food preparation equip, commerical stoves and appliances, floor machines etc)
Safe Food Handling Certificate
WHMIS
Driver’s license and vehicle for delivery to multiple sites
Vulnerable Sector Service Clearance will be required
Desirable Qualities:
Experience working with volunteers
Flexible to perform adhoc duties
Friendly personality
Able to work independently and within a team
Experience in healthcare and/or palliative care would be an asset
Willingness to work occasional extra hours
