Job Description:

Our technicians are responsible for the installation of overhead fibre optic networks for the largest fibre-optic telecommunications project in Canada. As a Fibre Optic Technician you will complete the installation of overhead fibre optics supporting the project build in communities across Alberta.

Responsibilities:

• Drive to and from residential and small business customer locations in a defined geographic area, installing overhead fibre on behalf of our client
• Installing fibre optic cables through manholes, ducts, and underground vaults.
• Operate equipment and a vehicle in a safe manner, ensuring adherence to Horizon’s safety program
• Interacts with customers in a professional and courteous manner to ensure that their work orders are completed as requested
• Provides a high level of customer service ensuring that any escalations or concerns are addressed professionally
• Utilizes handheld tools
• Ensures vehicle, test equipment and tools are maintained in excellent condition
• Supports the Lead technician as part of a small team of technicians dedicated to installing aerial drops

Requirements:

• Previous work experience in telecommunications is an asset
• Previous experience installing overhead fibre using lashers
• Previous experience of operating a bucket truck an asset
• Ability to climb utility poles
• Previous experience in fibre splicing an asset
• A strong technical aptitude
• Must be computer savvy, able to handle multiple computer applications
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that enables you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
• Self-motivated, ability to prioritize and organize workloads with little direction for self and others
• Maintain a valid provincial driver’s license
• Ability to manage a physically demanding position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and working at heights and in confined spaces

Work Conditions:

• Travel to various project locations in Alberta will be required.
• Must be open to rotating shift work.
• Work outdoors at the customer location.
