Job Description:
Our technicians are responsible for the installation of overhead fibre optic networks for the largest fibre-optic telecommunications project in Canada. As a Fibre Optic Technician you will complete the installation of overhead fibre optics supporting the project build in communities across Alberta.
Responsibilities:
- Drive to and from residential and small business customer locations in a defined geographic area, installing overhead fibre on behalf of our client
- Installing fibre optic cables through manholes, ducts, and underground vaults.
- Operate equipment and a vehicle in a safe manner, ensuring adherence to Horizon’s safety program
- Interacts with customers in a professional and courteous manner to ensure that their work orders are completed as requested
- Provides a high level of customer service ensuring that any escalations or concerns are addressed professionally
- Utilizes handheld tools
- Ensures vehicle, test equipment and tools are maintained in excellent condition
- Supports the Lead technician as part of a small team of technicians dedicated to installing aerial drops
Requirements:
- Previous work experience in telecommunications is an asset
- Previous experience installing overhead fibre using lashers
- Previous experience of operating a bucket truck an asset
- Ability to climb utility poles
- Previous experience in fibre splicing an asset
- A strong technical aptitude
- Must be computer savvy, able to handle multiple computer applications
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that enables you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
- Self-motivated, ability to prioritize and organize workloads with little direction for self and others
- Maintain a valid provincial driver’s license
- Ability to manage a physically demanding position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and working at heights and in confined spaces
Work Conditions:
- Travel to various project locations in Alberta will be required.
- Must be open to rotating shift work.
- Work outdoors at the customer location.
