The Highlands Golf Club is a member’s owned club, founded in 1929. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, the golf course is situated in the beautiful North Saskatchewan River Valley, just minutes east of the downtown core. At just over 6,400 yards long and playing to a par 71 with a slope rating of 131, the course is an enjoyable test of golfing skill. The golf course has recently completed a $2.1 million project to redo the irrigation system and redesign some golf holes during the falls of 2014 and 2015 and spring of 2016.

The Highlands Golf Club is looking for the services of a Controller. The successful applicant reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with our management team as well as our Finance Chair on the Board of Directors. The preferred candidate will have a strong educational and working background in business and accounting. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist our membership with any questions and/or billing concerns.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day finances of the Club including performing bank and GL. reconciliations as needed, preparing monthly financial statements and analysis of, month-end closing procedures such as billing and month-end entries, and maintain all accounting records.
  • Review and process accounts payable, complete cheque runs and reconcile all accounts payable.
  • Assist the General Manager in the collection of accounts receivable and advises the General Manager on delinquent accounts.
  • Maintenance of the payroll database for the Club, including new hires, changes, vacations accruals and benefit program. Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information.
  • Manage cash flow on a daily/weekly/monthly basis including cash forecasting and projections.
  • Assist the General Manager is the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with various departments. Ongoing monitoring of monthly variances.
  • Work with the Club’s external auditors to ensure that Club policies and procedures are being followed and that the Club uses professional and transparent controls on all finances.
  • Attend regularly scheduled management department meetings and finance committee meetings

Desired skills and experience:

  • Golf club experience or knowledge is an asset
  • Professional accounting designation or working towards designation
  • 5+ years of senior accounting experience
  • Working experience with Jonas software
  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, especially during the golf season

Salary, contract and benefits (to be negotiated based on qualifications and experience):

  • Annual Salary: $65,000-$85,000
  • Full-time position (or negotiable to an 80% work week)
  • Benefits to include golf privileges, RRSP program, health and dental program, cell phone allowance, meal allowance
