Capital Power (TSX: CPX) is a growth-oriented North American power producer headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The company develops, acquires, operates and optimizes power generation from a variety of energy sources.

Capital Power owns more than 2,700 megawatts of power generation capacity at 15 facilities across North America and owns 371 megawatts of capacity through a power purchase agreement. An additional 490 megawatts of owned generation capacity is under construction in Alberta and Ontario.

Brief Description

One Permanent Full-Time Position

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Environment, Health and Safety team.

Accountable to the VP, Health, Safety & Environment, The Senior Manager, HSE Programs & Planning is accountable to oversee the development, management, and reporting of Health, Safety, and Environment Policy, Systems and Programs to achieve a proactive and preventative culture of “Zero Injury” and “Environmental Responsibility” and excellence in HSE performance. This includes training and developing organizational wide HSE programs that promote excellence and continual improvement in support of CPC’s business plan objectives.

Key accountabilities include:

Detailed Description
·
Demonstrates commitment and leadership to Capital Power’s “Zero Means Everything” health & safety culture.
·
Develops innovative Corporate Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) programs and provides leadership to a team of professionals to support such programs.
·
Act as a subject matter expert by providing information, advice, planning and direction with respect to HSE programs, systems and procedures.
·
Oversee the development and facilitation of HSE training content and leadership competences for employees on policies, procedures and regulations
·
Manage the development of programs and processes to ensure the organization meets or exceed HSE compliance requirements and operates in accordance with all regulations, requirements, standards and local codes/laws as well as company values and philosophies.
·
Ensures CPC has the appropriate Health, Safety, Environment performance metrics for leading and lagging indicators and guidance for continuous improvement of overall HSE performance.
·
Manage integrated and innovative technology to create effective metrics, understand trends, and develop programs to ensure compliance and excellence in HSE performance.
·
Oversee and ensure quality of regional incident analyses, and provide feedback as necessary.
·
Report and monitor on the effectiveness and implementation of HSE programs throughout the organization.
·
Advises on CPC’s Health & Safety Policy development and annual review
·
Implement an effective and integrated Health, Safety and Environmental Management System and ensure HSE policies, procedures and documentation are maintained and consistent with legislation
·
Identify, interpret and report on HSE requirements and regulations affecting the health, safety, environment and operations functions and monitor possible risk and exposure and/or pending changes to legislated requirements
·
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on regional HSE compliance and performance; track leading and lagging performance targets
·
Prepare tri-annual reports for the HSE Board Committee.
·
Monitor and report on HSE standards to ensure timely development and implementation as appropriate.
·
Periodic N. American travel may be required
Job Requirements
Knowledge
·

Post-secondary education in a related Health, Safety, Environment field, business, engineering or other appropriate discipline
·
CRSP, CSP and/or P.Eng designation preferred.
·
10 years of Health & Safety experience; including managerial experience
·
Understanding of necessary components of Health, Safety and Environment policy, systems and programs.
·
Specialized industry related understand of environmental legislation and laws and how to track for updates and changes
·
Experience in both Canada and the US an asset
Technical Skills
·

General understanding of power operations and associated HSE risks
·
Knowledge of health, safety and environmental data management, analytics and reporting
·
Ability to provide Health, Safety, and Environment programs as part of a multidisciplinary team to both internal and external stakeholders.
·
Demonstrated understanding of the HSE models, the related opportunities and challenges and long term impact on the business of high value HSE policies and programs.
·
Demonstrated proficiency in business writing.
·
Ability to manage down to the tactical level where necessary to support the team to get things done.
·
Attention to detail and accuracy
·
Demonstrated capability to use multiple forms of problem solving for dynamic and complex issues and effectively addresses problems and not just symptoms.
·
Initiates, sponsors, and champions organizational change and assist others to successfully adapt to or manage these changes.
·
Strong communication skills: able to translate technical issues in a non-technical manner with all Business Stakeholders
·
Strong working knowledge of the MS Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
