The Surgery & Surgical Oncology wards E4 and F4 are well established inpatient surgical areas providing care for Gynecology Oncology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and the Acute Care Surgery Service. The Surgical Oncology Program is a regional program for the aforementioned services. The unit is supported by a full range of Allied Health Staff, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Clinical Education and Development, and support staff. The program has recently realigned surgical services from the McMaster Site to the Juravinski, doubling the volume of surgical services thus, allowing for the concentration of Surgeons, Nurses, and Allied Health who are experts in Surgical Oncology. This realignment is part a strategic corporate vision to further develop Surgery and Surgical Oncology Centers of excellence.
As a member of the healthcare team, provides clinical support in patient care areas. Functions according to the job description for Healthcare Aides.

This position is temporary until July 2015.
1. Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Aide Certificate or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses at McMaster University or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses in McMaster University and Mohawk College collaborative program or nursing student with successful completion of all level 1 courses in the Mohawk College Diploma program
2. Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required
3. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills
4. Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
5. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
6. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
7. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
8. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
