Hays Construction & Property and their client, an investment management firm, are looking to hire a Senior Claims Consultant for a six (6) month contract position. This position is located in down town Toronto.

As the Senior Claims Consultant, you will provide a variety of services in one of two areas; 1) cost/scheduling project controls, or; 2) construction claims consulting services. Service mandates will come from new and existing clients in institutional, commercial, residential buildings, industrial construction and infrastructure sectors. Senior consultants in the group have specific strengths in one of these two service areas and can support the other. The ability to understand and be able to write construction claims and rebuttals is essential for this opening. The cost/schedule project controls position has similar objectives, responsibilities and requirements to those of Project Controls practitioners with large Engineering and Construction companies.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Controls
• Working with client Project Management, coordinate the overall scheduling or cost control activities on projects;
• Working with client Project Management, prepare, monitor, analyze, trend, report and reconcile project schedule and cost data;
• Review, analyze, and report on contractor, vendor and consultant schedules & invoices
• Perform project cost risk analysis;
• Ability to prepare, coordinate and deliver reports/schedules/Cost analysis within agreed schedule and fee structure;

Claims
• Gather, organize and review client project data in order to determine disruption events;
• Analyze construction cost and schedule disruptions and determine impacting causes;
• Allocate delay responsibility and calculate impact costs as possible;
• Prepare disruption analysis reports that are concise, understandable and unbiased;
• Review and analyze existing construction claim reports and provide alternate opinions;

General
• Ability to address issues proactively with client and others;
• Maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues expeditiously;
• Ability to maximize the use of appropriate software and technology and teach others how to do the same such as Excel, Word, Power Point, CAD, etc;
• Client focused with a proven ability to build and maintain business relationships;

Job Requirements:

• Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, honesty and ethics;
• Post-secondary education in engineering, technical, construction or a recognized business program;
• A minimum of 10 years of construction claims preparation or project scheduling experience;
• Extensive knowledge of the construction industry including development, contracting and consulting sectors;
• Hands on knowledge of PrimeveraP6 or later (for project controls specialty);
• Thorough working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications;
• Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written & presentation (Writing skills are essential to this position);
• Knowledge of procurement/contracts, and construction management;
• PQS qualification. (an asset);
• Knowledge of Standard contract conditions – CCDC. (asset);
• LEED® AP. ( is an asset);
• Mechanical & Electrical Systems – understanding. (asset);
• Understanding of the real estate and advisory industry. (asset);
