Unit Summary The Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), a joint institute of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University, with over 285 employees working directly with 38 clinician researchers. PHRI conducts clinical research internationally in 86 countries and is a world leader in large, global health and population and health outcomes research . Our capacity to conduct multiple international studies concurrently, with tens of thousands of participants in each, is a capability very few organizations in the world can match.
Position Summary
The PHRI finance department provides support to over 38 scientists (“PI’s”) and their network of over 1500 local, national and international researchers for all financial activities required for the conduct of large multinational projects. Timely, accurate payments to vendors and collaborators participating in the projects are a critical financial function to support the projects.
Some factors that create additional complexities for this role are: Global payments in multiple currencies; PHRI’s usage of three base operational currencies CAD, USD and EURO; changing regulations; varying requirements of Sponsors & projects creating multiple processes for similar functions; Exception Management to facilitate special needs of specific countries/ sites/ collaborators.The A/P coordinator is responsible for timely processing of invoices on an ongoing basis.
Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours/week.
Qualifications
1. Post-Secondary education in Business or Accounting.
2. General accounting knowledge in relation to payables with at least 2 years of experience in similar position.
3. Excellent computer skills in the following programs: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook
4. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills to enable timely turnaround and in collecting and providing information to clients.
5. High level of attention to detail is crucial as a large proportion of the payments are sent by wire transfers and there are many large payments.
