You’ve always been interested in sustainability efforts and love keeping people aware of the latest environmental technology. You set the tone with a positive energy that is engaging, natural and infectious. You realize that with every guest comes a unique set of expectations and you adapt your tours and suggestions accordingly. Your friendly, outgoing demeanour is reflected in your interaction with guests and coworkers alike.
You are comfortable engaging with large groups given your experience guiding a high volume of guests in an outdoor environment. While making sure your guests have fun is a priority, you understand safety is a necessity.
The Eye of the Wind offers guests a memorable experience consistent to Grouse Mountain’s mission of celebrating everything that is uniquely British Columbian. The main function of this position is to educate guests on the Eye of the Wind sustainability action plans and environmental, social and economic strategies to integrate sustainability into our operations. Eye of the Wind guides have a passion for the outdoors and sustainability and passing this knowledge onto every guest they encounter throughout the day.
Eye of the Wind guides are responsible, but not limited to the following duties:
Guiding tours to the wind turbine in a safe professional manner while engaging with guests and providing an informative tour on the Eye of the Wind, Grouse Mountain and its surroundings
Giving speeches to drop-in guests in the ViewPod about the Eye of the Wind and surrounding areas.
Completing daily opening and closing inspections of the Eye of the Wind.
Collecting cash and other forms of payment as well as balancing floats at end of day.
Selling and promoting the Eye of the Wind Drop In experience and promoting all other Grouse Mountain products.
Adhering to company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements at all times
Greeting guests in a friendly professional manner.
Managing tours efficiently to provide an exceptional tour while meeting schedule requirements.
Completing daily written reports and checklists.
Completing general housekeeping duties for the Eye of the Wind and staff area.
Successful completion of secondary school
Completion or enrollment in post-secondary education in the field of environmental science, engineering, education or tourism management preferred
Must have flexible availability and be available on evenings and weekends
Previous experience leading groups, public speaking or tour guiding
Must have the ability to deliver scripted messages to large groups to engage, education and entertain guests
First-aid qualifications considered an asset
Completion of a satisfactory criminal record check prior to being hired
Must be able to work from heights and understand the requirements of mandatory safety at heights
Previous experience in customer service and/or adventure tourism considered an asset
Have the ability to communicate effectively with teammates, leaders, and both adults and children guests in group and individual settings
A reliable self-starter who can work with minimum supervision
Must be able to handle the physical requirements of an outdoor position that operates in all types of weather
