Job Description

Locally owned Real Estate Development and Property Management Company is looking for a full time Entry Level Bookkeeper. This Bookkeeper will support the Accountant in maintaining complete sets of books, keeping records of accounts, processing payroll, carrying out banking, personal bookkeeping services and preparation of complete sets of books up to and including financial statements for multiple related companies.

The Bookkeeper role will also support back office property management activities (rent collection, bill payments, correspondence etc) and provide administrative support in the office.

Responsibilities

Support the Accountant with the following activities:

  • Maintain financial records in Simply Accounting and Excel.
  • Post journal entries, reconcile accounts, prepare financial statements and maintain general ledgers.
  • Calculates and prepares personal and company cheques for invoices, government remittances as well as other expenditures.
  • Prepares other statistical, financial and accounting reports as required.
  • Works with auditors on company year-ends and HST and other related accounting duties.
  • Administration of mortgages.
  • Work with various banking personnel and use online bank systems.
  • Managing monthly rents.
  • Handle small property issues, support property listings/marketing/inquiries, arranges trades for repairs etc.
  • Books appointments, travel arrangements as required.

Requirements

  • Accounting related education and/or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Analytical, excellent with numbers.
  • Self-motivated.

Strong Assets

  • Experience in doing accounting books for small to medium companies (ideally within property management/real estate type company).
  • Experience in working with highly confidential/sensitive information.
  • Experience with Simply Accounting software.
  • Experience with Journal Entries, A/P, A/R, Trial Balance, GL, and financial statements.
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Office: Word, Outlook, and Internet.
  • Very good communication skills (verbal, written) with good phone manner.
