Position Title: Registrar/Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant

Department: Emergency Department

Hours: Full-time, 72 hours bi-weekly, 7:00am-7:00pm, rotating weekends required

Qualifications: Registration experience, current Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant license

Position Title: Registrar

Position Summary

Registers patients for outpatient services and inpatient admissions. Provides a positive first impression of the local entity.

Collects insurance co-pay and deductibles at Point of Service. Quickly and efficiently expedites the admitting procedure.

Participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate

Keeps all patient or colleague information confidential

Attends required in-services and meetings

Completes required mandatory competencies by deadline

Abides by all safety requirements including wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and demonstrating proper hand

Essential Job Functions

Description

Assists patients in the processing of paperwork.

Interviews patients to obtain all required financial and demographic information necessary to register that patient for any services

needed.

Inputs all of the collected information into the appropriate systems.

Makes sure that every patient has an appropriate order from the physician.

Calls physician’s office as necessary to obtain proper orders.

Informs patients/guarantors of their insurance co-pay, coinsurance and/or deductibles and collects at time of registration.

Fills out appropriate forms and receipts to complete the cash collection process.

Accurately scans all insurance cards, ID’s, orders and other documents.

Accurately completes MSP/medical rights forms for all patients.

Balances out cash and credit card transactions at the end of each shift and maintains individual cash bag in accordance with the

cash control procedure.

Obtains copies of patients’ insurance cards, photo ID and secures appropriate consents and insurance assignments.

Recognizes that the information gathered is necessary to efficiently and effectively handle the patient’s account.

Willingly accepts other duties as assigned.

Educational/Training Requirements

Physical and Mental Requirements

Varied amounts of sitting, standing, stooping and bending. Must be capable of stretching and lifting. May require walking short

distances. Is subject to eye strain from prolonged periods of word processing and computer screen viewing. Exposure to

frequently fast paced office environment, requiring the ability to work under pressure of multiple requests and time constraints.

Must possess manual dexterity to handle and manipulate equipment.

Environmental Requirements

Occasional exposure to moderate environmental variations, above-normal noise levels, and/or unpleasant substances. May be

exposed to hazardous or potentially injurious elements or conditions. During the course of duties may occasionally be at risk for

Graduate from accredited medical assistant program required, with coursework in pharmaceuticals and medicine administration

practicum OR credentialing from an organization other than HSHS that meets the requirements of Centers of Medicare and Medicaid

Services (CMS) for Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), which requires passage of an examination and recertification.

Essential Job Functions

Description

Assists in various aspects of patient flow process including, but not limited to performing

front office reception and billing office duties, securing/stocking necessary supplies,

preparing exam room and patient for examination, assisting the provider with the exam or

procedure, and cleaning/disinfecting exam/treatment area after use, performing various

laboratory duties.

Performs miscellaneous CLIA-waived testing which may include checks for throat

pathogens, sexually transmitted diseases, urine dipsticks, and pregnancy tests.

Assists healthcare providers with the patient care process in person, and over the

telephone.

Is responsible for working with incoming mail, pulling medical records for appointments,

phone messages, billing request, and reports, assisting in making sure that key components

of the record are in place, transcribing dictation and filing medical records.

Complies with all clinic policies and procedures including, but not limited to blood borne

pathogens, chemical safety, laboratory, administrative, and system responsibility.

Practices and documents according to scope and current standard of care ensuring that

entries are legible and complete.

Assists with various aspects of diagnostic testing which may include pulmonary function

tests, obtaining and/or preparing specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results.

Performs EKG’s/rhythm strips, and place/remove Holter monitors, if trained.

Is accountable for achieving quality standards.

Is responsible for several tasks related to the paper flow through office.
