Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) is currently seeking a seasonal Waste Management/Maintenance Crew.

Purpose of Position
To participate in all waste management and maintenance activities necessary in order for GVHA properties and facilities to look clean and well cared for and be safe for public use at all times.

Position Links

• Works independently
• Receives direction from Maintenance Administrator
• Reports to Manager of Marina Operations

Specific Accountabilities

• Cleans and removes all garbage and refuse, leaves, sand, logs, unknown containers, and graffiti from all GVHA facilities and properties
• Visually inspects all GVHA facilities and properties and reports any waste management or maintenance needs to supervisor
• Assists in the maintenance of GVHA facilities and properties
• Participates in other cleaning and maintenance activities when required
• Ensures a high level of customer service and public safety for all facilities and all activities of GVHA’s Maintenance Department

Tools/Equipment

• Operates and maintains tools and equipment including small hand tools
• Operates motorized vehicles which may include work truck (with power tail gates)

Working Conditions

• Seasonal position includes weekends and Stat Holidays, Thurs. to Mon., 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• Position starts beginning of May and ends October 10th, weekends only after Labour Day
• Working primarily in an outdoor setting in all types of weather
• Working from and around ladders, floats, piers, vessels, and other hazardous conditions
• Physically demanding position which may include regular lifting of garbage cans, tools, etc.

Experience and Education

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
• Working knowledge and skills in custodial work and building maintenance
• Experience and knowledge in the safe use of tools and equipment operation
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and abstract required
• Experience working with the public
